|| BioMetric_Other

[work in progress for the project BORDER curated by Sophia Kilassonia /art_CP_studio/]

Behind the project BioMetric_Other stands a personal story of every non-eu/non-us citizen with his/her desire to achieve better conditions for professional/personal development. For such people the only possible way to get higher education acclaimed by world standards, to get a normal job in their own country or even just to improve their social conditions is to apply to a various institutions abroad [mainly in EU and US].
Understandable procedure of papers, documentations, applications etc. is accompanied by the very dramatic inner background which reduces self-esteem of the applicant and very often puts him/her in an offensive situation outlining the gasp between him/her and the civilized world. Under the compulsory non-eu/non-us field in searching for the nationality, ethnicity, race etc. very often the only possible word that matches to applicant is other. Being other _ being out of the normal, civilized and privileged world _ becomes an offensive mark which identifies the person merely to a not desired object, to a paper of correctly filled application, to a biometric photo [5 x 5] taken within the last 6 months, to a sum of enormous amount of papers eliminating the fact of being a potential emigrant…

Being other becomes a destiny, tattoo - imprinted deeply on one’s soul and mind and the mark proving one’s illegibility to a normal life.
